Buhari congratulates Obiano, says electoral reforms bearing fruits

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Willie Obiano, governor of Anambra state, for his victory at the state’s governorship election.

In a statement on Tuesday, the president said the success of the election is a proof that his administration’s electoral reforms are bearing positive fruits.

Obiano secured a landslide victory, winning in all the 21 local government areas in the poll which held on November 18.

Buhari also commended other candidates, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers as well as security agencies on the peaceful conduct of the poll.

Femi Adesina, spokesman of the president, quoted Buhari as saying “the processes leading to the election and its peaceful conduct and outcome, have shown that our electoral reform is bearing positive fruits”.

Buhari also described as “heart-warming”, the conduct of the candidates after the election results were announced.

He urged INEC to improve on areas of logistics ahead of the 2019 governorship and presidential elections.

Buhari urged the governor to rededicate himself to “building on his achievements that endeared him to the electorate and swayed the overwhelming majority of votes in his favour”.

“President Buhari assured the governor-elect that the federal government is ready to work with him for the greater harmony, peace and development of not only Anambra state but the entire country,” the statement read.
