The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Anambra state.

Victoria Eta-Messi, INEC’s director of voter education and publicity in the state, announced the extension in a statement issued on Monday in Awka.

Eta-Messi said the exercise, initially scheduled to end on October 29, will now continue until November 2.

She explained that the decision followed a meeting of the commission held on October 27 after it received multiple appeals from citizens and stakeholders seeking more time.

“The INEC has approved the extension of the ongoing collection of PVCs in Anambra from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2,” she said.

“The decision was reached at a meeting of the commission held on October 27, following several appeals from citizens and stakeholders requesting additional time to enable eligible voters to collect their cards.”

Eta-Messi urged registered voters who have not yet obtained their PVCs to use the extended period to do so at any of the 326 registration area collection centres across the state.

She noted that the ongoing distribution covers individuals who registered during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The INEC official emphasised that collection will only be done in person, emphasising that no proxy collection would be allowed.

The Anambra governorship election is scheduled to hold on November 8.
