Andy Uba, a senator representing Anambra south, is one politician that has defied all odds to become one of the treasured sons of the south-eastern state.

His political ascent has been inspiring, but not without challenges, and attacks from detractors. I remember, in the build-up to the 2007 governorship election in Anambra state, Senator Uba ran one of the most effective campaigns. Andy Uba was on the lips of every Anambra citizen – both the young and the old.

But then fate played out. Senator Uba was not fazed. He soldiered on; he consolidated his political infrastructure, and ran for a senatorial seat in his district – Anambra south, and won by a landslide.

The name Andy Uba still evokes love and admiration in Anambra citizens. And there is no denying the fact that he will win any election in Anambra state!

Recently, there have been sponsored media attacks against Uba. But the senator, being a calm and reserved person, has not responded to them. Moreover, this is because he believes in the decency of silence.

But I find it troubling that some people will seek to drag the name of Senator Uba in the mire just to get money out of him. This has been the real reason for the sponsored attacks.

Senator Uba may not be a perfect man, but he is an individual who believes in the sanctity of truth, justice and fairness. He has nothing to hide. He should not be blackmailed. Rather than blackmailing him, attention should be turned to his laudable projects in his constituency, and on his works at the senate.
