Angela Merkel, German chancellor, has tested negative for coronavirus for a second time.

Merkel reportedly quarantined herself at home on Sunday, after she had contact with her doctor who tested positive for coronavirus.

The doctor was said to have administered a precautionary vaccine against pneumococcal infection on Merkel on Friday.

Steffen Seibert, the chancellor’s spokesman, on Wednesday said Merkel’s second coronavirus test also returned negative.

He also added that Merkel will undergo another test for the virus next week.

However, Seibert added that the chancellor will continue to perform her official duties while staying at home.

Germany currently has 40,421 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 229 deaths.

The German government has put a ban on public gatherings of more than two people, except for families and those who live together.

Restaurants have been advised to close or only sell takeaway. Schools have also been shut down.
