Another explosion rocks Taraba — second time in a week

Many people have been reportedly injured following an explosion in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state.

The incident was said to have occurred in Nukkai area of Jalingo on Friday night.

Usman Abdullahi, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Taraba, confirmed the incident to TheCable on Saturday.

According to the police spokesperson, no one was killed in the incident, though a few persons were injured.

“As God may have it, we were very lucky there was no casualty. There were slight bruises, but the impact was not serious,” he said.

The incident comes days after six persons were killed and several other persons injured in an explosion that occurred in Iware community in the state.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday at a local drinking place within the Iware market axis in the state’s Ardo Kola LGA, was suspected to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED).

Communities in Taraba have come under attack in recent weeks, with killings and abductions recorded.

On April 11, gunmen attacked a mosque in Maisamari community in Sardauna LGA of Taraba and killed Abdulkadir Sufiyanu, the district head.

Prior to the attack on the mosque in Maisamari, some residents were kidnapped when gunmen invaded a mosque in Bali Jali village of Taraba state.

Muslim worshippers were breaking their fast when the attack in Bali Jali occurred.
