The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor, of exhibiting dictatorial tendencies.

In a statement issued by Mala Buni, national secretary of the party, APC said Wike has threatened to sack workers who do not vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the national assembly and state house of assembly rerun elections.

Buni said the governor has also threatened officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling on security agencies to take note of the alleged threats.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) draws the attention of security agencies and other relevant bodies to dangerous threats by the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike in the lead-up to the March 19, 2016 Rivers state rerun elections into the national assembly and state house of assembly,” the statement read.

“The Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike in a brazen show of force has told officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prepare their will before coming to conduct the elections in Rivers state.

“The APC is also aware of threats issued by the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike to civil servants in the state to either support and work for the People Democratic Party (PDP) or face sack.

“The plot also include intimidation of eligible voters, INEC officials and security operatives deployed to ensure peaceful, free and credible rerun elections in Rivers state.

“Security agencies must be on high alert over the dangerous threats by the Rivers state governor, and by extension the PDP in the lead-up to the Rivers re-run election.

“The APC advises the Rivers State governor and the PDP to grow out of its penchant for ‘do or die’ politics. We reiterate previous calls on the PDP to embrace the new Nigeria where elections are peaceful and votes of the people count.

“While we call on INEC and security operatives to be mindful of the dangerous threats by the Rivers State Governor, the APC is confident in INEC and security agencies ability to deliver peaceful, free and credible supplementary election come March 19, 2016.”
