APC coasting to victory in Kaduna LG poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won 16 of the 23 local government areas in the ongoing council polls in Kaduna state.

The APC secured the most votes in Jama’a, Soba, Zaria, Lere, Ikara, Makarfi, Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Kagarko, Kudan, Igabi and Kajuru local councils.

In Zaria, APC polled 42,859 votes, while PDP got 16,033. In Soba, APC got 40,903, while PDP scored 13,835.

The APC was declared winner in Kaduna north having polled 168,572 while the PDP polled 12,467. In Zaria local government, the APC won with 42,859 votes against the PDP’s 16,033 votes.

The results from Kubau showed that the APC got 46,535 votes to defeat the PDP which polled 13,898.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party won in three local governments.

In Zangon Kataf, Elias Maza of the PDP scored 55,643 votes to defeat APC’s John Hassan who polled 31,514 votes.

The PDP also won Kauru and Sanga local government areas.

The results of Sabon Gari, Chikun and Kaduna south were still pending at the time of this report.

Elections were cancelled in Jaba and Kaura due to security concerns.

The council elections were conducted using electronic voting machines in the area.

This is the first time a state has adopted the use of electronic machines to conduct elections in Nigeria.

A total of 31 political parties had earlier announced their decision to boycott the election.
