Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) can learn from its defeat in the Osun by-election which took place on Saturday.

Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled a total of 97,480 votes to defeat Mudashiru Hussain of the APC who had 66,116 votes.

Ademola is the younger brother of the late Isiaka Adeleke, senator who represented Osun west senatorial district until his death on April 23.

Speaking with journalists on Monday after having a cmeeting with John Oyegun, national chairman of the APC, Onyeama said the party needed to work together.

“You learn from everything, very often you can learn from a defeat, even more than you can learn from victory,” the minister said.

“I think there are good lessons we can learn from that, going forward, in terms of organising and staying together within a particular state and avoiding situations where individuals become too paramount.

“As a party, we have to work together; it’s not about individuals but about the party.”

According to him, the crisis in Enugu state chapter of the party and how the situation could be managed was discussed at the meeting with Oyegun.

He said that as the highest public office holder from the state, it was his responsibility to ensure that the crisis did not escalate.

The minister also said that it was his responsibility to ensure that everybody worked toward the development of the state, while supporting the programmes of the APC-led federal government.
