Emmanuel Nkpubre, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom, is well-equipped to become the next senate president.

The former minister of Niger Delta affairs was nominated by the APC for the position while Barau Jibrin was recommended as deputy senate president.

In a statement on Monday, Nkpubre, the president of the Godswill Akpabio Fans Club, said the former governor possesses the essential experience to lead the legislative business of the national assembly.

“As a former two-term governor of Akwa Ibom State, a former Niger Delta affairs minister and an experienced lawmaker, Senator Akpabio is well equipped with the requisite experience in governance and politics to occupy the highest legislative seat in the country,” he said.

“Those were the considerations that informed the establishment of the Sen. Akpabio Fans Club with the intent to drum up support for the former minister’s senate presidency ambition, among other objectives.”

Nkpubre also denied claims that he is against Akpabio’s bid to become the president of the red chamber.

He said the claims are unfounded and fabricated to smear his reputation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I hold the distinguished senator Godswill Akpabio in high esteem and remain his loyal supporter, especially in his quest to lead the senate of the 10th national assembly of the federal republic of Nigeria,” he said.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be so aligned with such a great mind.”
