APC governors meet in Kebbi, vow to strengthen party ahead of 2027 polls

Members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) held a closed-door meeting on Thursday at the council chamber of the Kebbi government house in Birnin Kebbi.

The session, chaired by Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state, brought together governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The top agenda of the meeting was to discuss pressing national issues and internal matters, particularly to the ruling party.

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Bassey Otu, governor of Cross River, described the APC as the “most formidable” political platform in Nigeria, capable of managing defections and balancing expectations ahead of the 2027 general election.

Otu attributed the growing attraction to the ruling party to the “steady and deliberate revival of Nigeria’s economy under President Bola Tinubu”.

“The attraction is simple. The economy is growing, and it’s very clear that His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, is doing the right things,” he said.

“Everyone who truly desires progress and the growth of Nigeria is naturally gravitating toward that direction.”

The governor refuted claims of internal discord within the party, saying the APC has the structure and maturity to harmonise interests between founding members and new joiners.

“From the day you join APC, you have equal rights. The machinery put in place is such that there will be no issue,” Otu said.

“Our main agenda is not about internal politics but about delivering to Nigerians the dividends of good governance.”

‘RENEWED HOPE AGENDA DELIVERING RESULTS’

Otu said the achievements of the Tinubu administration in various sectors provides strong grounds for optimism ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda are delivering real results. This meeting is for retrospection, alignment, and collaboration, to ensure that as governors, we are all moving on the right path of sustainable development,” he said.

He cited improvements in key sectors such as agriculture, which he said has now contributed more to the economy than oil.

“From the indices and the physical results, we are doing very well. The country is moving in the right direction,” he added.

“There’s visible improvement in almost all areas, and that is a testament to true diversification.”

Otu said the APC government’s reforms are stabilising the economy and promoting inclusivity across the federation.

“Nigeria is on the proper path to recovery. It’s good for inclusive governance, and that’s why everyone should come together to deliver on this collective agenda,” he said.
