APC ‘grills’ Aisha Alhassan

Aisha Alhassan, minister of women affairs, on Thursday, appeared before the national working committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The APC had summoned the minister over her public declaration of support for the 2019 presidential aspiration of Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, even if President Muhammadu Buhari runs in the election.

In a video that went viral last week, Alhassan declared Abubakar as “president 2019”.

Her declaration has put her at odds with some members of her party such as Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna state governor, who said she was never loyal to Buhari.

On Thursday, the minister appeared before the NWC in a closed-door meeting at the APC headquarters in Abuja. John Oyegun, national chairman of the party, and Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman of the party, were present at the meeting.

TheCable on Wednesday reported that she was the centre of attention before the federal executive council meeting commenced, a reaction that was contrary to expectations that she would be given a cold shoulder.
