A group in the All Progressives Congress (APC) known as Legacy Group has endorsed Siminalayi Fubara, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state, for Saturday’s election.

Speaking at a press briefing, Lasbry Amadi, leader of the group, said they decided to back Siminalayi because Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, supported the power shift to the south.

He said the APC wouldn’t have won Rivers if Wike did not back the party’s presidential candidate.

“As you are also aware, during the first round of elections that featured the presidential contests, those of us here voted for our party presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu,” Amadi said.

“Similarly, we the legacy group in the APC Rivers state commend the governor of Rivers state, his excellency Nyeson Ezenwo Wike for his stance on power returning to the southern rule which is in line with the aspirations of our founding fathers.

“We acknowledge the support of the governor, his supporters, and the good people of Rivers state without whom the party (APC) would have, once again, lost the presidential elections in the state as was the case in the previous elections.

“In view of the above, therefore, we the legacy group of the All Progressive Congress, Rivers state, hereby without any form of hesitation endorse and adopt the PDP candidate as the preferred choice for the governorship of Rivers state.

“The All Progressive Congress being a party of justice and fairness, the PDP is most appropriate wherein power should rotate to the Rivers south-east senatorial zone, the only zone yet to produce the governor of our dear state.”

The group asked its members in the state to “massively” vote for the PDP in the governorship election as a “payback thanks to his excellency Nyeson Ezenwo Wike for his huge contributions and sacrifices for the huge success of our APC Presidential candidate”.
