Atiku Abubakar
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Atiku Abubakar, the former vice-president, over his comments on the Rivers state LGA election.
In a statement on Monday, Felix Morka, APC national publicity secretary, described Atiku’s remarks as an attempt to cover up the poor outing of his African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He said the party’s victory in the polls reflects growing confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the renewed hope agenda.
The APC won 20 of the 23 chairmanship seats in the election conducted on Saturday.

“We commend our party leaders, members and supporters for working assiduously for this important victory,” Morka said.
“We also thank the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and transparent exercise.”
The ruling party refuted Atiku’s claims of electoral malpractice, saying they were “no more than a smokescreen meant to distract the public from another miserable no-show record of his ADC, and an attempt to stoke tension and strife over the Rivers local government election”.

The APC urged Rivers residents to disregard Atiku’s criticism, describing it as “an unwise counsel of a forlorn serial presidential contender”.
According to the party, the outcome of the election showed that the electorate in Rivers State had “rejected incitement to instability” and voted in support of unity and progress.
“We reiterate our profound gratitude to the electorate in Rivers State, and we urge the newly elected chairpersons to deliver meaningful governance outcomes for the common good of all,” Morka added.
