The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the planned reception for Agbu Kefas, governor of Taraba, earlier scheduled for Wednesday.

Felix Morka, APC national publicity secretary, announced the postponement in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Morka said the event was suspended in honour of members of the armed forces and citizens recently killed in attacks by terrorists but did not mention the new date for the reception.

He said the decision also reflects respect for victims of abductions, including students abducted in Kebbi.

“We salute the courage and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line in defence of our liberty and security,” the statement reads.

“As we mourn the death of our dear compatriots, we pray for the safe return of our innocent students taken from their families by forces of evil.”

Morka said the ruling party commiserated with families affected by the killings and abductions.

He said President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to defeating insurgency and banditry and bringing perpetrators to justice.

In a chat with journalists on Saturday, the governor of Taraba announced that he would be leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling party.

Kefas said the defection “has to do with the destiny of Taraba people”, adding that he would be “expecting a lot of visitors” for the ceremony.

On Monday, John Bonzena, the speaker of the Taraba state house of assembly, defected from the PDP to the APC.
