APC spokesperson accuses PDP governors of double standards after remarks on bye-elections

Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of making reckless claims over the August 16 bye-elections.

The PDP governors’ forum had criticised the conduct of the polls, alleging over-militarisation, irregularities, vote buying, and violence.

In a statement on Monday, Morka said the governors were “projecting their own doomed fate” while attempting to mislead Nigerians.

Speaking to TVC hours later, Morka said PDP governors cannot “selectively endorse democracy” because the results did not favour them.

“The elections were called, and the people who were eligible to vote in those districts went out to cast their votes,” he said.

“At the end of the day, our party won, and we won big. Now, what is wrong with that? Why is it okay for the PDP, especially the governors of the PDP, to applaud democracy where they won, like in Oyo, and decry democracy everywhere else they lost?

“These are people who are supposed to be responsible for the affairs of their states.

“So when they gather, you expect them to deliberate on serious matters and issue communiques that justify the time and resources spent. But when they come out to make such statements, it only shows irresponsibility.”

The APC national publicity secretary added that the party was delighted with the outcome of the polls and thankful to Nigerians for their support.

“We will not be bothered by statements coming from people making excuses for their failures,” he added.

“This is a party, the PDP, that is completely unable to manage its own internal affairs.

“If I ask them today who is their national secretary, they do not know. And then they point fingers at the APC for doing what we were established to do. We have no apologies to make for our success.”
