The All Progressives Congress (APC) says President Muhammadu Buhari has no third-term agenda as insinuated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While addressing journalists in Katsina state on Tuesday, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said the masses would trust Buhari for guidance on whom to vote for in 2023.

“We see PDP nursing the false hope of taking over power in 2023. The masses will never abandon President Buhari’s leadership. I’m sure in 2023, they’re waiting for him to show the way,” Shehu had said.

Reacting to Shehu’s statement, the PDP accused Buhari of having a self-succession plan and warned the presidency against plans to seek a third term in office.

But commenting on the major opposition’s statement, John Akpanudoehede, national secretary of the APC caretaker committee, said unlike the PDP, the APC is a disciplined party.

Akpanudoehede alleged that the PDP, while in power, had a third-term agenda and that it is now “being haunted by its past”.

The national secretary said the APC will surprise the PDP with the outcome of its planned congresses scheduled to commence on July 31.

He added that the APC would not allow individual ambitions to derail the Buhari administration ahead of the 2023 presidential poll.

“After our congresses and the national convention, we will shock them (PDP) by bringing a consensus and an agreeable candidate that will fly the flag of the party come 2023,” he said.

“APC has no third term agenda like PDP. What we are doing now is to stabilise the party and not allow individual ambitions to derail President Buhari’s administration.”
