APC welcomes Oborevwori, says Delta will boost Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda

Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta state governor

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the defection of Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta, to the ruling party, alongside several senior members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is a major boost.

On Wednesday, Oborevwori, a former speaker of the Delta state house of assembly, defected from the PDP to the APC.

“We came to the inevitable conclusion that moving out of the PDP is very, very necessary for us to be able to collaborate with our kith and kin and build that state that every Deltan will be proud of,” Charles Aniagwu, Delta state commissioner for information, announced.

In a statement, Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the APC, said the party is “highly elated” by the decision.

“The governor of Delta state, Sheriff Oborevwori, has joined our great party along with eminent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement reads.

“Joining him are former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, senior administration officials, members of the house of assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and teeming PDP members in the state.”

Morka said the ruling party welcomes the new members “with our fullest cooperation and accommodation in the APC family”.

Morka noted that the defection follows a wave of political realignments in the state, including the recent movement of members of the Delta Unity Group in Ika federal constituency to the APC.

He said Delta, now an APC state, is “poised to contribute maximally to the success and realisation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”.

“This move is a significant development for the enduring good and prosperity of Deltans and all Nigerians,” Morka added.
