The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the chairmanship and councillorship slots in the Kano State council election held on Saturday.

Announcing the results to NAN on Sunday, Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Dr Sani Malumfashi, said APC won all the 44 local government chairmanship and the 484 councillorship posts in the “largely successful and peaceful” election.

“APC won as officially declared by returning officers at the various levels,” Malumfashi said, thanking the state government, politicians and residents for their support to KANSIEC before and during the election.

A total of 19 parties contested the election, although only APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contested all positions.

Meanwhile, the Kano State chapter of PDP has already rejected the outcome of the local government election, alleging electoral malpractices.

“KANSIEC failed to conduct a free and fair poll,” Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of the state, told the media in Kano.

Shekau said the PDP would go to the court to defend the principles of democracy as enshrined in the constitution, but urged loyalists of the party to maintain law and order because “the constitution will be used to correct all the flaws.”
