APC wins house of assembly bye-election in Plateau

Eric Dakogol, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won the bye-election of Qua’an Pan north constituency’s in the Plateau house of assembly.

Dakogol polled 5,409 votes to defeat PDP’s Alloy Oliver, who garnered 4,977 votes.

Announcing the result at the legislators chamber of Qua’an Pan local government secretariat, Akkarven Ashakah, returning officer of the election, described the poll as “very successful and credible”.

Ashakah, who is the deputy dean, faculty of law, University of Jos (UNIJOS), congratulated the two candidates and their parties for conducting themselves peacefully during the bye-election.

“Politics is a game of numbers and should be played maturely,” he said.

With the victory, Dakogol will replace Godfrey Dashe, former representative of the constituency, who died two months ago.

Letep Dabang, state chairman of the APC, described Dakogol’s victory “a victory for democracy considering the peaceful conduct of the election”.

Anthonia Okoosi-Simbine, the national commissioner of INEC in charge of the north central zone; Godwin Kwanga, the state resident electoral commissioner; party officials; amongst others were present during the announcement of the bye-election result.
