APC’s loss, PDP’s gain

May 08
10:41 2014

Mr. Sunday Olaoye, the elder brother of Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Declaring his allegiance to the PDP, Laoye said he left the APC because he was “used and dumped.’’

Olaoye, who was a chieftain of the APC in Osun, where his sister emerged as the deputy governor of the state, said he held consultations with God and his supporters before making the decision to retrace his steps to the PDP.

He described PDP as a party that is ready to welcome everybody without discrimination, saying he knows the PDP governorship candidate to be a man of ideas.

“I am ready to work for the success of the PDP,” he told NAN.

“I will go back to political trenches across the 332 wards in Osun to ensure the victory of the PDP in the August 9, 2014 election.”

Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, chairman of PDP Osun State, described the decision as a good development for the party.

Olaoluwa described Olaoye as “a big catch that will throw the opposition party into disarray.’’

The PDP chairman said Olaoye and his followers would be accorded with dignity, stressing that the party would ensure that all true democrats return to their fold before the governorship election.

Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo, former national vice chairman of the PDP in the south west, described the return of Olaoye to the PDP family as an indication of greater things to happen.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, the APC publicity secretary in Osun, remarked that defection is usual in a democracy.

In a statement made available to newsmen, he maintained that it is not compulsory that all members of a family belong to the same political party.
