The Science, Technology & the ARTS (S+T+ARTS) Afropean Intelligence, an initiative backed by the European Commission EU), has asked African artists to tap into the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance their creativity and gain global recognition.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Oscar Ekponimo, managing director of Gallery of Code, the institution hosting the programme in Africa, explained that the initiative offers a unique platform for artists to explore the intersection of science, technology, and the arts.
According to him, 10 selected artists will receive financial support and take part in a fully funded residency programme designed to deepen their engagement with AI and other emerging technologies.
He further explained that the initiative focuses on critical themes like AI ethics, social justice, and inclusivity.

“The project seeks to explore themes of AI ethics, social justice and inclusivity,” he said.
“This is not just about adding a technological veneer to existing practices. It is about a fundamental shift in how we conceive of the role of arts in society.
“We are seeking artists who are passionate about using their creative talents to analyse pressing social issues, challenge established narratives, and foster a more inclusive and equitable world.”
