There is tight security at the national assembly as armed operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) are currently stationed at some points within the area.

There is also an unusual number of officers of the Nigeria police force patrolling the premises.

The unusual security situation may not be unconnected to the expected appearance of Ibrahim Idris, the inspector-general of police (IGP), before the senate.

Lawal Daura, the director-general of DSS, who had earlier been summoned by the lawmakers asked well, is also expected to appear.

Some of the DSS operatives are masked while others are not.

The lawmakers summoned Idris to brief them on the travails of Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, who has been having a running battle with the police.
