Waidi Shaibu, the chief of Army Staff (COAS), has encouraged troops of forward operating base (FOB) Ivo, in Enugu state, to remain disciplined, committed, and proud of their role in safeguarding national security.
Speaking on Thursday during an operational visit to the base, the COAS praised the soldiers for their resilience and dedication, saying their presence in the area has significantly improved security and restored public confidence.
“We are from the top hierarchy of the army. We know you are here and we know the shape of your team,” he said.
“We want to ensure that the security situation in your area of responsibility is the best it can be.”

Shaibu assured the troops that their welfare remains a top priority to the military, urging them to take pride in their service to the nation.
“Your mere presence here has improved the general security situation. It is because of you that certain people are going about their normal activities. So, take pride in what you are doing,” the COAS said.
He reminded the soldiers that not everyone could endure the demands of military service, asking them to remain fit, disciplined, and mentally alert.

The COAS urged the troops to remain loyal and attentive to their officers, noting that leadership and teamwork are essential for operational success.
“I want you to listen to your officer. He will lead you well, he will discipline and show courage at every step of the way,” he said.
“You are growing in the job. Most of the senior officers started from this stage, deployed in places like this over 30 years ago.”
Shaibu informed the soldiers of the ongoing regimental sergeant majors (RSM) convention in the country, noting that it helps to strengthen regimental discipline and mentorship in the army.

“As senior soldiers, you must take care of the young ones around you. Listen to them and guide them properly. This is how the Nigerian Army maintains its traditions and effectiveness,” he added.
