Waidi Shaibu, chief of army staff (COAS), has directed the immediate completion of all ongoing residential accommodation projects in army barracks across the country.
Shaibu gave the order on Thursday while speaking at the closing ceremony of the chief of army staff annual conference 2025 in Abuja.
He said improving troop welfare, particularly housing, remains a key priority of his leadership, adding that he would build on efforts made by his predecessors to address accommodation shortages in the army.
“In line with our welfare commitments to all Nigerian Army personnel, I shall continue to build on the efforts of past chiefs of army staff in addressing the crisis of accommodation shortages,” he said.

The army chief said all ongoing housing projects would be completed and allocated without delay, while new residential developments would be initiated in divisions and barracks nationwide.
Shaibu said the army would also embark on extensive renovation of existing facilities across its barracks as an interim measure.
He acknowledged that although some progress has been recorded, significant gaps still exist and require sustained intervention.

The COAS said the army would continue to prioritise post-service housing to ensure dignity and stability for soldiers and officers after retirement.
Shaibu announced that he would be in Ibadan, Oyo state, on Friday, to commission the affordable home ownership option (AHOO) project for soldiers and the post-service housing development limited shopping complex.
He expressed confidence that the housing initiatives would ease accommodation challenges for serving and retired personnel, and commended the chief of logistics (army) and other commanders for their roles in the projects.
