Faruk Yahaya, chief of army staff, has called on officers and personnel conducting the ongoing selection exercise for the 81 regular recruits intake into the Nigerian army to be fair and firm.

Yahaya gave the directive on Saturday, when he visited the Nigerian army fitness centre in Falgore camp in Kano state, where the screening exercise is taking place.

Onyema Nwachukwu, director of Army public relations, announced this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

The army chief urged officers to carry out their tasks with diligence and professionalism, adding that personnel must be fair and firm in the conduct of the exercise.

He also assured them of army headquarters’ support in providing them with logistics and other infrastructure necessary for the successful conduct of the ongoing recruitment screening.

Yahaya commended the Kano state government for supporting the Nigerian army to improve infrastructure in the fitness centre.

He encouraged and commended the candidates for their determination and zeal to serve in the Nigerian army.

Army spokesperson disclosed in the statement that the exercise was part of effort by Nigerian army to shore up it manpower.

He said the exercise was being conducted in Falgore to give the potential recruits early exposure to the reality of terrain and weather conditions that they would be confronted with during their training and in the course of their military career.

According to him, this strategy gives credence to the COAS’ pillars of command philosophy, which hinge on professionalism, readiness, administration and cooperation.

He said the visit served as a huge morale booster to the potential recruits
