Army ‘repels’ Boko Haram attack in Borno

Troops of the Nigerian army have repelled a Boko Haram attack in Dikwa, a community in Borno state.

Texas Chukwu, director of army public relations, disclosed this in a statement.

He said the insurgensts attempted to enter Dikwa through the eastern end of the town but were intercepted by the troops.

“Some of the terrorists escaped with gunshot wounds from their superior firepower, efforts are currently on to arrest those on the run,” he said.

“No casualty was recorded by the troops during the encounter.”

Chukwu added that some soldiers intercepted a bus conveying 20 men along the Nasarawa- Abuja road.

He explained that the men who claimed to be hunters were arrested with locally made guns, pistols, bow and arrow, adding that the suspects are undergoing interrogation.

On July 26, soldiers and insurgents exchanged gunfire in Jakana, a village in Kaga local government area of Borno state.

Residents said the insurgents stormed the village, a 10 kilometers distance from Maiduguri, around 6:30pm but met a stiff resistance from the soldiers.

Grema Bashir, a witness, said the sect members came on motorcycles.
