He came, fought but could not make it past the quarterfinal.

Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri on Saturday crashed out of the 2017 ITTF World Cup in Liege, Belgium.

Having worked his way into the main draw (round of 16) of the tournament, Quadri’s dream of repeating the 2014 quarter-final feat was extinguished by Japan’s Jun Mizutani.

Quadri fell 4-0 (6-11, 7-11, 6-11, 7-11) to the Olympic bronze medalist.

The African champion lost his first game to Korea’s Lee Sangsu.

He defeated Kanak Jha of US in the preliminaries on Friday to book a clash with Rio Olympics bronze medalist Mizutani in the round of 16.

On Sunday, the semi-final and final matches will be played to decide the winner of the competition. China’s Fan Zhedong could not make it to Belgium to defend his title.
