Quadri succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fan Zhedong, the top-ranked table tennis player in the world.

The Oyo state indigene, ranked 14th in the world, had earlier come from two games down to overcome Brazilian Hugo Calderano in the first round of the 16-man tournament.

Aruna, who recently retained the 2023 ITTF African Championships men’s singles title, was the only African player at the tournament.
