Asaba 2018: Enekwechi wins gold as Udo-Gabriel settles for bronze
Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has won the men’s shot put event at the ongoing Africa Athletics Championship.
The Commonwealth silver medalist produced a gold medal performance with a throw of 21.08 meters.
Mohamed Khalifa of Egypt came second with a throw of 19.33 meters while South Africa’s Kyle Blignaut won the bronze medal with a 19.05 meters throw.
Enekwechi participated in the 2017 World Championships but did not make it out of the qualifying round. He was a runner-up at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
Meanwhile, Cote D’Ivoire’s Marie Josee Ta Lou has won the women’s 100m race.
Ta Lou won the gold medal in a time of 11.30s while Ghana’s Janet Amponsah clocked 11:54 seconds to win the silver medal.
Nigeria’s Joy Udo Gabriel came third to win her first ever senior individual medal.
