Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar has “rescued” 15 out of the girls which the Boko Haram insurgents abducted at Government college, Chibok, Borno State with full scholarships.

While about 276 students were abducted, about 40 of them managed to escape from captivity and they vowed not to continue their education unless they are opportune to find a safe and secure environment.

However, Atiku came to their rescue recently by offering them scholarship to the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Adamawa state, an institution he established in 2005.

Atiku, who disclosed that the philanthropic gesture was done in collaboration with other individuals, sympathised with the parents of the girls who are still in Boko Haram enclave, urging for prayers on their safe return.

“(Fifteen) of the #ChibokGirls who escaped have been admitted into AUN Academy on a scholarship,” he said on his tweeter account.

“My sincere thanks to the good spirited individuals and friends who raised funds for this worthy cause. #BringBackOurGirls‎.

‎”It is heartbreaking to see how much the Chibok parents have suffered. We must pray for the safe return of all the girls.”
