Atiku says he’ll resist election rigging, promises Nigerians ‘positive change’ under ADC

Former Senator Idris Abdullahi(L) and Atiku Abubakar(R)

Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, has pledged to resist election rigging and fight against poor governance in the country.

Abubakar made the remarks in a post on his X page on Saturday after meeting with Gombe stakeholders led by Idris Abdullahi, a former minister and senator.

He said Nigerians cannot continue to suffer despite the country’s vast resources, blaming poor leadership for the prevailing hardship.

The ex-presidential candidate added that the coalition of opposition leaders under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would work to bring about meaningful change in the country

“Yesterday, I vowed to stand against the stealing of elections and oppose bad governance,” Abubakar wrote.

“I made the pledge while receiving a delegation of Gombe stakeholders led by former minister and senator, Idris Abdullahi.

“The coalition of opposition leaders under the umbrella of the ADC would work assiduously to usher in a positive change that will transform the lives of our people.”

Abubakar added that the quality of the coalition’s interim leadership reflects its readiness to restore integrity and offer responsible governance.

“The quality of the interim leadership shows that we are ready to bring integrity to the process and give Nigerians the responsible leadership they deserve,” he said.

“I am further inspired by the Gombe stakeholders’ pledge of total support and loyalty to the decision of the coalition by joining the ADC.

“The group reminded me that I laid the foundation for the development of Gombe when I supported the election of Danjuma Goje as governor in 2003.”

Abubakar and other opposition leaders recently announced the adoption of ADC as the coalition platform for the 2027 elections.
