Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president of Nigeria and Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, are expected to attend a programme organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors’ forum.

Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto and chairman of the forum is the host of the event slated to hold at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Thursday.

According to C.I.D Maduabum, the director-general of the forum,  Muda Yusuf, a renowned economist, would speak on the theme “Good governance at the sub-national level: issues, perspectives, expectations and outcomes” at the event.

“The programme will serve as an opportunity for PDP leaders, stakeholders and members to come together, since after the general election,” the director-general said.

Outgoing governors, governor-elect including Seyi Makinde, Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom, Peter Ndubusi Mbah of Enugu State,  Agbu Kefas of Taraba, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau are expected to attend the programme.

Members of the PDP’s national working committee (NWC), national executive committee (NEC), and board of trustees (BoT) are also to grace the programme.

Both Atiku and Wike would be publicly seen together at the event for the first time since the February 25 election.

Since Atiku won the party’s presidential primaries on May 28 2022, Wike, championing the “presidency must come to the south”, alongside four other governors had opposed his presidential campaign.

Atiku came second in the election behind Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the election on March 1.

In the election, Tinubu polled 231,591 votes in Rivers as against Atiku who scored 88,468 – the first time since the fourth republic started in 1999 that PDP was unable to get 25 percent of votes in the state.
