Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have crashed out of the 2023 African Women’s Basketball League (AWBL).

The Border Girls were trounced 89-65 by Angola’s Inter Clube in the competition’s quarter-final at the Sporting Club Alexandria, Egypt, on Sunday.

NCS had progressed to the knockout stage after finishing third in Group A following the defeat of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) of Congo in their last game on Friday.

But Inter Clube, who finished second in their group, proved a steeper challenge for Nigeria Customs.

The Angolans ran the NCS ragged from the tip-off and were already ahead 31-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The Border Girls were no match for their opponents’ intensity, and a clear difference was established in the second quarter when the score grew to 60-27 at halftime.

Nigeria Customs’ second-half resurgence could only slow down the onslaught as Inter Clube consolidated their lead in the final two quarters to earn a 22-point victory.

The Angolans will play Sporting Alexandria in the semi-final billed for Monday after Kenya Port Authority (KPA) had faced REG Women BBC earlier in the day.

The final of the premier African women’s basketball club competition will be played on Tuesday.
