Taiwo Awoniyi is on the brink of completing a deal with Liverpool.

Nigeria U-23 team’s media officer Timi Ebikagboro has confirmed that Awoniyi is currently missing a training camp ahead of the All-Africa Games in order to fly to Merseyside to undergo a medical and sign a contract.

The 18-year-old striker will sign for the Reds from a Nigerian based academy, Imperial Academy, and will then be sent out on a season-long loan because Liverpool are currently unable to secure a work permit for him.  So, he will spend this season at a club in either Belgium or Holland and then link up with Liverpool U-21 next summer.

Awoniyi has represented Nigeria at U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels.
