Awujale postpones 60th coronation anniversary over coronavirus

The 60th coronation ceremony of Sikiru Adetona, ajuwale of Ijebuland, has been postponed over coronavirus concerns. 

Tunji Ayanlala, chairman of the anniversary committee, announced this in a statement.

Ayanlala said the decision to postpone the celebration is in compliance with the directive of the Ogun state government on restriction of social gatherings.

He said a new date for the event would be announced.

“Due to the realities and in line with recommendations of the Ogun State government regarding social gatherings and distancing because of the COVID 19 virus, the Diamond Anniversary Committee of the 60th Coronation anniversary of Alaiyeluwa Oba (Dr) Sikiru Adetona, CFR, the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, hereby advises our invited guests of the postponement of the anniversary celebrations,” the statement read.

“A new date for the event will be advised as soon as it is expedient to do so. We seize this opportunity to congratulate the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland on this great milestone and wish him many more years on the throne of his forefathers.”

Nigeria currently has 12 coronavirus cases. The index case had arrived in the country on February 24 and headed to Ewekoro in Ogun state after spending the at a hotel close to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

A Nigerian who contracted the disease through him has since recovered.
