Mohammed Badaru, minister of defence, says Nigeria will bid goodbye to insecurity with the deployment of modern military equipment to fight the menace.

In his goodwill message at the Nigerian Bar Association conference, Badaru said the government is focused on investing in the modernisation of military equipment to guarantee the safety of lives.

The minister said the national defence policy focuses on modernisation of the armed forces.

He said the country is developing its local military-industrial complex which would also ensure innovation and employment.

The minister said while investing in modernising military equipment, the government would also pay attention to the blue economy, unmanned spaces and climate change.

Badaru, represented by Ibrah Kena, permanent secretary of the ministry, said the government has invested a lot in providing equipment and platforms to address piracy.

“With the deployment of modernised military equipment, we will begin to say goodbye to insecurity in Nigeria”, he said.

“Indeed the government is redoubling its efforts by providing more platforms like ‘Falcon Eye’ as well as the deep blue project.

“Government has invested huge resources on these projects to address insecurity in not just the Niger Delta but the entire coastal areas of Nigeria.”

Badaru said the Nigerian Navy has been active in fighting piracy which has affected the economy of the country, particularly in the maritime area.

He said unmanned spaces have a significant impact on both the security and economy of the country.

He added that the country would invest in unmanned spaces through agriculture in order to reduce insecurity in the country.
