Badaru visit troops in Borno, says Tinubu committed to ending insecurity

Mohammed Badaru, minister of defence, says President Bola Tinubu is committed to addressing the growing security challenges in Borno state.

In a statement issued on Friday, Tukur Gusau, the director of defence information, said Badaru spoke in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, during an operational visit to the headquarters of the joint task force (north-east) Operation Hadin Kai.

Badaru was accompanied by Bello Matawalle, minister of state for defence, and Christopher Musa, chief of defence staff (CDS).

He noted that the purpose of the visit was to evaluate the security situation in the state and engage in discussions with Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno on the way forward.

Badaru, who conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation to the troops, received a briefing from Waidi Shaibu, the outgoing theatre commander, on the operational activities, achievements, and challenges of the command.

He reaffirmed the Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to meeting all operational needs of the troops to enhance security in the region.

The Borno governor thanked the ministers and the chief of defence staff for the visit and pledged the state’s continued support to the federal government and the Nigerian armed forces in tackling the security challenges in the state.
