Ibrahim Lame, a former minister of police affairs, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to bailout the economy — not to the states.
Lame, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Bauchi, said this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists in the state.
The former minister said the governors should look inwards and generate revenue for their states.
He alleged that instead of using the bailout funds to pay outstanding salaries owed to workers, the governors diverted it to other purposes.
“As a president, you are not supposed to give bailouts to states; you are supposed to bail out the economy,” he said.
“Let the governors go and fulfill their campaign promises. They should look inwards and look for money because there were problems in the economy when they came in.
“What the president should have done was to look at which aspect of the economy he should revive.”
He also said that the federal government should establish liaison offices in the All the 36 states so that it could directly execute meaningful projects across the country.
