Tunde Bakare, founder of Latter Rain Assembly and one-time running mate of President Muhammadu Buhari, says he is burdened by the captivity of the 219 Chibok girls.
While leading a prayer session on Sunday at the Unity Fountain in Abuja to commemorate the second anniversary of the abduction of the Chibok girls , Bakare urged Nigerians to keep hope alive until the girls are found.
“I’m grateful to God for the fact that this movement is neither a Muslim nor Christian movement,” he told members of the Bringbackourgirls (BBOG) advocacy group.
“I’m here as a father burdened by the captivity of the Chibok girls. It is better to tell me that my child is dead than to tell me that my child his lost. Until the chapter is closed and this matter resolved, we shall not lose hope.”
The BBOG group has scheduled some events to mark the second anniversary of the abduction of the missing girls. The events are expected to come to a head on April 14.
The girls were abducted from their school at Chibok, Borno state, on April 14, 2014.
The abduction sparked a global outcry, with some of the world’s biggest personalities calling for their release.
