Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi, has appointed Li Zhensheng, a Chinese national, as economic adviser to the state government.

The governor announced the appointment on Thursday during the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre in Bauchi.

According to Channels TV, the governor said the appointment is aimed at positioning Bauchi as a hub of international cooperation, with the partnership expected to boost investment, infrastructure, and projects across key sectors.

“As part of the deal, a Bauchi state representative office will be established in China to oversee project implementation and ensure timely delivery,” Mohammed said.

Mohammed noted that the MoU provides a framework for collaboration, with specific agreements to be developed on a case-by-case basis.

He said that the partnership aligns with the diplomatic framework between President Xi Jinping of China and President Bola Tinubu to strengthen ties at both national and subnational levels.

The governor added that the collaboration would also boost foreign direct investment (FDI), create jobs, enhance skills, modernise key sectors, and improve the state’s global visibility.
