Bandits attack Zamfara community, abduct 30 residents

At least 30 residents were abducted on Tuesday when bandits attacked Zamfarawa village in the Zugu district, Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, reports that a large number of bandits invaded the community at about 2:20pm.

The publication said the bandits shot sporadically to scare residents and whisked away 30 villagers to an unknown destination.

Following the incident, security forces have intensified efforts to trace and rescue those abducted.

Many Zamfara communities have recently come under bandits’ attacks.

Earlier this month, suspected gunmen abducted two councillors and an imam in the Tsauni community under the Gusau LGA of the state.

Yazid Abubakar, the police spokesperson in Zamfara, confirmed that the councillors, representing Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun LGA, alongside the community imam, were kidnapped on Wednesday night in front of their houses after prayers.

In September, armed bandits killed at least five worshippers in a mosque and abducted several others in the Yandoto community, Tsafe LGA.

The killings caused widespread panic and sparked outrage among residents, who later gathered for the funeral prayers of the victims.
