Bandits kill ‘five worshippers, abduct many’ in Zamfara community

Armed bandits have killed at least five worshippers and abducted several others in Yandoto community, Tsafe LGA of Zamfara state.

The incident occurred on Friday morning when the attackers stormed the mosque during prayers and opened fire on the congregation.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the armed men shot dead five people on the spot before taking an unspecified number of others away into the forest.

The killings caused widespread panic and sparked outrage among residents, who later gathered for the funeral prayers of the victims.

“We pray Allah to forgive their shortcomings, accept them as martyrs, and bring an end to this bloodshed in our land,” a community elder was quoted as saying.

The attack comes barely a week after gunmen abducted 40 worshippers during dawn prayers at a mosque in Gidan Turbe village, also in Tsafe LGA.

Witnesses said the gunmen stormed the mosque around 5:30 am, surrounded the building, and forced worshippers out at gunpoint before marching them into the forest near the Gohori axis.
