Barau: APC will sweep FCT in future elections

Barau Jibrin, the deputy senate president, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win future elections in the federal capital territory (FCT) by a landslide.

Barau spoke on Thursday at the party’s unity rally held at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Abuja.

The rally was organised to receive Christopher Maikalangu, chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and his supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC.

Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the APC, led other members of the national working committee (NWC) of the party to receive the decampees.

Barau said the turnout of new members into the APC reflects growing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

“It’s a remarkable event because the APC train, the national chairman’s train, has been going round the country, welcoming thousands of people into our great party,” he said.

“Today, it has landed in FCT. The national chairman and other NWC members have been doing a wonderful job getting people into our party. Thousands have joined recently.”

He described Maikalangu’s defection as a major political win for the party in the FCT.

“Today, we are witnessing another landmark event to receive a great chairman of the AMAC, one of the FCT councils, into the APC — and not only him, but all the people in his local council,” he said.

“This will change the narrative in the FCT. By the grace of God, we will win a landslide any time an election is conducted.”

Barau urged party members to work together and support President Tinubu’s administration.

“We’ve been saying it: before Mr. President came on board, this country was having several challenges — problems on all fronts: infrastructure, security, energy, and what have you,” he said.

“He came with the will to change the narrative. But then, global conflicts like Russia-Ukraine and Israel–Palestine gave rise to increases in the price of commodities and services worldwide. Of course, Nigeria cannot be isolated.”

Barau said despite the global challenges, Tinubu has remained committed to rebuilding the country.

“Rome was not built in a day. You cannot expect a building that has been destroyed to be rebuilt in one day,” he said.

“We need to be patient with him. He’s working in the best manner possible to bring prosperity to our nation and turn our country into the land of El Dorado.

“I want to assure you that we are part of the team, and we know the efforts the president is putting in to make sure that he brings prosperity to our nation. Let’s support him.”

On April 12, Ganduje said the proposed coalition of opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 elections would fail.

He spoke with journalists during the visit of the APC national working committee (NWC) to the residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna.
