Organisers of the Bullet Energy Basketball Championship has revealed the next edition will hold in Asaba, Delta state.

Samuel Oguche, the former D’Tigers player who initiated the contest, announced this in a statement on Thursday.

Oguche said the next edition of the championship was moved to Asaba due to next year’s general election.

He also disclosed that the event would take place in February 2023, adding that twelve teams would compete in the men and women categories of the championship.

“We initially planned to move to Abuja from Lagos but after checking the election schedule, we were faced with either to call off the championship or try to stage it before the election,” he said.

Oguche also promised a more improved competition next year.

“I remain indebted to the teams, sponsors and media for the last edition held in Lagos in November. I also appreciate the CEOs of Sunmark Ltd and Bullet Energy drink who has been in the forefront of developing basketball in Nigeria and Africa in the past seven years, pledging more support from the Oguche foundation in developing basketball in Nigeria,” he added.

“The teams have found the tournament quite helpful to their developmental goals but we can’t take for granted their availability.”

First Bank Basketball Club successfully defended their trophy in the last edition for the women’s category while Kwara Falcons became the new men’s champions, a feat they improved on by winning the national title a week later.
