Bauchi education officer sacked over alleged sexual harassment

The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission has dismissed Emos Joshua, a principal assistant education officer at Government College, Azare, over allegations of sexual harassment.

The commission said Joshua’s conduct constituted serious misconduct, violating Rules 0327 (xxviii and xxix) of the Bauchi state public service rules.

A statement on Thursday by Saleh Umar, spokesperson of the commission, said the decision was made during the commission’s 32nd plenary after all disciplinary procedures outlined in rule book were exhausted.

“The disciplinary action was taken against the officer after general disciplinary procedures had been exhausted as contained in Rules 0317 of the Public Service Rules and Regulations,” the statement reads.

During the session, the commission also promoted two deputy directors to directors of physical planning and development control on grade level 16, and elevated a chief physical planning officer to acting deputy director on grade level 15.

Umar added that 80 nursing officers and nursing superintendents were promoted across grades 10 to 14, based on recommendations from the state special school management board, public procurement and physical development board, and health management board.

Ibrahim Muhammad, chairman of the commission, noted that due process was followed in Joshua’s dismissal, adding that it was necessary to uphold discipline and integrity within the civil service.
