The Bauchi state government says it has uncovered 19,241 ghost workers and saved N797.46 million.

Yakubu Mohammed, special adviser to the governor on media and communication, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Mohammed said more than N1 billion would be saved monthly from the exercise, explaining that the discoveries followed a verification exercise to ascertain its work force.

He added that the exercise involved the screening of both its work force and pensioners on the payroll of the state government.

Besides, Mohammed said the exercise covered staff of the main civil service, those of the 20 local government councils and education board in the state.

He said the figure released by the office of the state accountant-general showed that the exercise was yielding fruitful results.
Mohammed said the exercise was being conducted “in the face of dwindling resources and in keeping with the resolve to ensure probity, accountability and prudence in governance and management of resources’’.
