Erik Ten Hag was appointed as United manager in April 2022 and he won Carabao Cup in 2023 and FA Cup in 2024.
Bayer Leverkusen have announced the dismissal of Erik ten Hag as manager of the Bundesliga club.
The Dutch coach, who spent only three months in the role despite signing a two-year contract with the former Bundesliga champions in May, was sacked on Monday.
Ten Hag, sacked by Manchester United in October 2024, had replaced Xabi Alonso in the dugout, but oversaw only three matches before his surprise exit from the club which has both Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella, Super Eagles players, on its books.
His exit comes two days after Leverkusen conceded two late goals to drop points against Werder Bremen in a 3-3 draw.

He also lost his first match in charge of the club at home.
The club, in a statement, disclosed that ten Hag’s sack was recommended by management, with current backroom staff to take over training until a new manager is appointed.
“Bayer 04 Leverkusen have parted ways with head coach Erik ten Hag,” the club stated.

“This was decided by the shareholders’ committee, the club’s supervisory body, on the recommendation of the management of Bayer 04. Training will be overseen by the current backroom staff on an interim basis.”
Also reacting to the sack, Simon Rolfes, the club’s managing director of sport, said the difficult decision was taken because ten Hag does not have the quality to rebuild the club following the sale of several players.
“This decision was not an easy one for us. Nobody wanted to take this step.
”However, the past few weeks have shown that building a new and successful team with this setup is not feasible. We firmly believe in the quality of our team and will now do everything we can to take the next steps in our development with a new setup.”

Fernando Carro, CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, also assured fans that the club is committed to achieving its goals under a new coach.
Ten Hag, a 55-year-old former Ajax Amsterdam tactician, is the third former Manchester United manager to be sacked in the space of a week, joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho.
