YD Ahmed, director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has asked corps members to be security conscious throughout their service year.

Eddy Megwa, director of information and public relations of the NYSC, said in a statement on Thursday that Ahmed advised corps members not to undermine their safety by embarking on frivolous adventures that can endanger their lives.

Ahmed gave the admonition while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream Two corps members, during his visit to Kano orientation camp in Kusalla Dam, Karaye LGA of the state.

The DG added that his administration will continue to ensure safety and welfare of all corps members.

He also implored them to live in peace, tolerate divergent views and maintain good conduct at all times.

“Social vices like hard drugs, hooliganism, truancy among others are not allowed throughout the service year. Anyone that violates the NYSC bye-laws would be sanctioned,” Ahmed said.

While presenting the camp situation report to the DG, Halima Abubakar, the NYSC Kano coordinator, said all camp officials have so far “proven themselves as pacesetters and team players with dedication, honesty and loyalty to the scheme”.

She added that all the registered 1,683 corps members, comprising 776 females and 907 males, have adjusted and acclimatised to the regimented camp life.

“Our corps members are highly disciplined, enthusiastic and have been actively participating in all the camp activities,” Abubakar said.
