World class neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate, Ben Carson, says he would not advocate that America be led by a Muslim.

In an interview with NBC TV on Sunday, Carson said Islam is inconsistent with the constitution of the United States of America.

When asked if the faith of the US president should matter, he said it depends on what the faith is, maintaining that Islam is inconsistent with the values of the country.

“I guess it depends on what their faith is, if it’s inconsistent with the values and principles of America, that kind of question should matter,” he said.

“But if it fits into the realm of America and [is] consistent with the constitution, then no problem.”

“I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that.”

He went on to say it is a different ball game entirely for congress, emphasising that he could vote a Muslim to congress depending on the person’s individual value.

“Congress is a different story, but it depends on whom that Muslim is, and what their policies are, just as it depends on what anybody else is,” he said.

“If there is somebody who‘s of any faith and they say things and their lives have been consistent with things that would elevate this nation and make it possible for everybody to succeed and bring peace and harmony, then I’m with them.”

No Muslim has ever been America’s president and the congress has just two Muslim members, who are from  the Democratic party; Keith Ellison of Minnesota and Andre Carson of Indiana.

Ben Carson is seen as Donald Trump’s biggest competition for the Republican Party ticket.
