‘Better to be absent from coalition of confusion’ — Tinubu woos opposition governors to APC

President Bola Tinubu has implored governors elected on the platform of other parties to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the APC national executive committee (NEC) meeting, Tinubu said the party remains open to welcoming new members, including serving governors willing to defect.

“It is not a bad idea to abandon a sinking ship and be absent from a coalition of confusion,” Tinubu said.

The president commended members of the ruling party for its unity and growth, noting that the APC now controls 23 states and counting.

He also welcomed Sheriff Oborevwori and Umo Eno, governors of Delta and Akwa Ibom states, respectively, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

“I want to thank our governors. Today, I think we have 23 governors and still counting. I thank all of you for your show of love, solidarity, and accommodation,” he said.

“With the space we have created to allow more members to join us, our doors are still open till December, and we will embrace them wholeheartedly.

The NEC meeting also ratified the appointment of Nentawe Yilwatda, minister of humanitarian affairs, as the new national chairman of the party.

He succeeds Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned from the role on June 27.
